VICAT testing is used to measure the softening temperature of a material, particularly plastics. It determines the temperature at which a standardized needle penetrates a sample under a specific load. HDT (Heat Deflection Temperature) testing is used to measure the temperature at which a plastic material deforms under a specific load. It determines the point at which the material starts to lose its rigidity and begins to deform under the applied load and elevated temperature.
